Manchester, England – Press reports have revealed Manchester City’s moves to strengthen its midfield during the current summer transfer window, in light of the departure of a number of important players, most notably Spaniard Rodri and Portuguese Bernardo Silva.
Manchester City are working on rebuilding their squad under the leadership of Italian Enzo Maresca, who has taken over the technical responsibility for the team, with more than one player being targeted to strengthen the midfield before the start of the new 2026-2027 season.
According to English journalist David Ornstein, Manchester City have contacted Crystal Palace to inquire about the possibility of signing Adam Wharton, the 22-year-old midfielder.
Crystal Palace responded to Manchester City officials that Wharton is not for sale during the current transfer window, leaving Manchester City to continue their search for other options to strengthen their midfield.
For his part, Ben Jacobs revealed the list of names targeted by Manchester City, indicating that Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez is among the top options alongside Wharton.
He explained that Manchester City’s management plans to make two new signings in midfield before the transfer window closes, as part of a plan to restructure the team for next season.
Enzo Fernandez tops the list of targeted players, as Manchester City prepares to make an offer for the Chelsea player, coinciding with the approaching deadline set by the London club’s management to decide on his future.
Manchester City’s list of targets also includes Frenchman Ayoub Bouadi, a Lille player who is close to joining the team, along with Manu Koné, a Roma player.
The club’s moves also included Liverpool’s Argentinian player Alexis Mac Allister, as contact was made between the two parties, but the player expressed his desire to continue with the Reds in the coming period.
