Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump stated that his country “will not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon.” He asserted that Iran’s military capabilities have been weakened during previous periods of confrontation and escalation.
In media statements, Trump explained that US policies during his administration, including subsequent deterrent measures and economic sanctions, have contributed to weakening Iran’s military influence in several regional conflicts. He added that these policies have also reduced Iran’s ability to act freely in certain areas of tension.
He added that continued international pressure on Tehran is, in his view, a crucial tool to prevent it from developing a nuclear program with a military dimension. He pointed out that any leniency on this issue could open the door to a dangerous arms race in the region.
He also stressed the need for a unified Western stance in the face of what he described as Iranian threats. He called for a more stringent policy toward its nuclear program and related activities, while continuing to monitor its regional actions.
These statements come at a time when discussions continue within American and international political circles regarding the future of the Iranian nuclear agreement. Discussions also persist about the possibility of returning to it or replacing it with a new agreement that is more stringent in its terms and monitoring mechanisms.
