Washington, DC – US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced an expansion of its maritime operations around Iran, a move it said was aimed at enhancing monitoring of shipping traffic in the region’s sensitive waterways.
CENTCOM explained that the recent measures included rerouting a number of commercial vessels, with 39 ships having their routes diverted recently, as part of what it described as maritime security operations to prevent any potential threats.
She added that these moves are part of broader efforts to enhance maritime surveillance in areas of tension, noting that coordination continues with international partners to ensure the smooth flow of trade and protect global supply lines.
CENTCOM did not provide further details regarding the nature of the vessels or their final destinations. This move is seen as an escalation in maritime pressure measures related to tensions with Iran in the region.
