Data from the real estate website Rightmove revealed a 104% increase in searches for homes for sale with air conditioning during the summer of 2026, compared to the same period last year. This indicates that rising temperatures are beginning to have a noticeable impact on the UK property market.
Britain experienced repeated heat waves this summer, with temperatures in some areas reaching nearly 38 degrees Celsius. This prompted many Britons to reconsider the specifications of the ideal home. While air conditioning was long considered an unnecessary luxury in the British climate, a recent survey revealed that 87% of respondents consider a home’s ability to stay cool an important factor when choosing a new residence. In contrast, 61% said they might consider installing an air conditioning system, although only 12% already have one. Other data indicates that the number of British homes equipped with air conditioning has surpassed 4 million. This is double the number recorded three years ago, driven by rising temperatures and the increase in working from home. Consequently, residents are spending more time indoors during the hottest periods.

Conversely, air conditioning, insulation, and ventilation systems are becoming increasingly important in home valuations.
