Cairo, Egypt – The Cairo Economic Court fined actress Hala Sedki 20,000 Egyptian pounds and ordered her to pay 10,000 Egyptian pounds in civil damages in a lawsuit filed by Saudi visual artist Shalimar Sharbatly, who accused her of defamation.
The beginning of the crisis
The incident stems from a report filed by Shalimar El-Sharbatly, in which she confirmed that she had transferred sums of money to Hala Sedky to participate in a restaurant and café project in the Sheikh Zayed area. She explained that she had transferred approximately 2,483,480 Egyptian pounds, and requested the appointment of an accounting expert to determine her share of the project’s profits, based on bank transfers that took place two years prior.
Case developments
The court had acquitted Hala Sedki of charges related to those financial transactions, but the crisis escalated later after she published a series of posts on social media that included phrases that Sharbatly considered offensive and sarcastic, prompting her to file the lawsuit in which the final verdict was issued.

It is worth mentioning that Hala Sedki recently participated in the series “Bibo,” which was shown during last Ramadan season. The series combined drama, comedy, and suspense, and featured a number of stars, including Sayed Ragab and Walid Fawaz. It was written by Tamer Mohsen’s workshop and directed by Ahmed Shafiq.
