Lisbon, Portugal – Danish Julius Johansen, a player for the Emirates XRG cycling team, yesterday scored his second victory in the Tour of Portugal. After winning the title of the fifth stage, which was held against the clock for a distance of 17.4 kilometers. To once again confirm his brilliance in individual time trial races.
Johansen covered the stage distance in a time of 21 minutes and 13 seconds, 30 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, Thiago Antonis, from the Evabel Sickling team. Axel van der Tuck of Euskaltel-Euskadi came third, 35 seconds behind.
This is Johansen’s second win in the current edition of the Tour of Portugal, after previously winning the preliminary stage. He also raised his tally to five professional victories, all of which were achieved during 2026, and came in individual time trial races. Reflecting his increasing specialization in this type of competition.
The stage witnessed remarkable brilliance for the Emirates team, after Johansen’s teammate, Italian Luca Jaime, ranked fourth, 43 seconds behind the leader. While Spaniard Adria Pericas came in fifth place, one minute behind, according to the official results of the stage.
Perikas’ result contributed to him advancing four places in the overall standings, rising to fourth place. He continues to wear the white jersey designated for the best young cyclist in the race.
Frenchman Alexis Guerin leads the overall standings of the Tour of Portugal with a total time of 16 hours, 39 minutes and 31 seconds. He was followed by his compatriot Artem Nitsch by 1 minute and 12 seconds, then Thiago Antonis by 1 minute and 52 seconds. While Perikas occupies fourth place, two minutes and 26 seconds behind.
