Trabzon, Turkey – The Turkish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee has brought an end to the controversy surrounding Ertuğrul Doğan, president of Trabzonspor. The committee decided against imposing any sanctions on him or the club following statements he made before one of the team’s Turkish league matches.
The Turkish Football Federation had referred Trabzonspor and its president to the disciplinary committee. This was due to a post published by Doğan on the club’s official Twitter account before the match against Gençlerbirliği.
The federation justified the referral decision by stating that the statements contained material that could harm the reputation of football and its affiliated institutions.
After reviewing the file and examining the content of the publication, the Disciplinary Committee concluded that there were no grounds to impose a penalty on Trabzonspor or its president. Therefore, the case was closed without any disciplinary action.
Before the match, Dugan had issued a statement urging that the course of the game not be influenced by refereeing decisions. He also stressed the importance of ensuring that refereeing decisions do not overshadow the players’ performance or affect the outcome of the match.
His message read: “We do not want to witness a refereeing performance in a match that overshadows the players’ efforts on the field, affects the result of the match, and raises questions about their focus and self-confidence”.
According to the Turkish newspaper “61 Hours,” the disciplinary committee decided to close the case due to a lack of grounds for imposing sanctions, whether on the club or its president.
Trabzonspor secured a resounding 5-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği in a match played last Sunday evening as part of the fourth round of the Turkish Super League.
