Barcelona, Spain – Hansi Flick, the manager of Barcelona, has decided on the status of a number of reserve team players before the club’s delegation departs for the Italian city of Udine to participate in a three-team friendly tournament as part of the team’s preparations for the start of the new football season.
The Spanish newspaper “Sport” revealed that Flick decided to bring back three Barcelona Athletic players to the reserve team, namely Oscar Gesto, Brahim Diaz, and Alex Gonzalez, after they had spent the previous period with the first team.
Flick brings back Barcelona trio from Athletic
The trio had joined the first team’s training sessions about a month ago, along with 14 players from the reserve and youth teams, and they also participated in the preparatory camp that Barcelona held at St. George’s Park in England.
Gesto, Gonzalez and Diaz played a friendly match with the first team against Birmingham City, before Flick decided to send them back to Barcelona Athletic, in preparation for completing the reserve team’s program in the coming period.
The trio are expected to participate with Barcelona Athletic in the match against Girona tomorrow, Saturday, as part of the team’s preparations for the new season, especially after finishing last season in sixth place and failing to qualify for the play-offs.
Hamza Abdel Karim continues with the first team
On the other hand, young Egyptian striker Hamza Abdel Karim remains on the first team roster, as he will travel with the Barcelona delegation to the city of Udine, along with 14 players from the club’s academy.
Barcelona are participating in a three-team friendly tournament with Italian side Udinese and English club Nottingham Forest, as part of the team’s preparations for the new season.
Hamza Abdelkarim performed well during his time with the first team under Flick, participating in two friendly matches against Europa and Birmingham City, and managing to score two goals during the Birmingham match.
The Egyptian player was expected to get a new opportunity to prove himself in the coming period, given his continued inclusion in the first team squad before the friendly tournament in Italy.
