Cairo, Egypt – The draw for the preliminary rounds of the 2026-2027 African Champions League, conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday, resulted in Egyptian club Zamalek facing Djibouti’s AS Port in the first preliminary round (round of 64).
Zamalek returns to the CAF Champions League after a three-season absence. They benefit from winning the Egyptian Premier League title last season. Their continental campaign begins with a match against the representative from Djibouti.
If Zamalek succeeds in overcoming AS Port, they will have a date in the second preliminary round (round of 32) with the winner of the match between the Rwandan Army and the Congolese Eagles.
The preliminary round competitions are scheduled to begin next September. The tournament will continue until the group stage. After that, the knockout rounds will be held and the champion of the new version of the African Champions League will be determined.
