Cairo, Egypt – Al Ahly of Egypt learned their potential opponent in the second preliminary round (round of 32) of the 2026-2027 CAF Confederation Cup. This came after the preliminary round draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday in Cairo.
The draw resulted in Al Ahly of Egypt awaiting the winner of the match between Mogadishu City of Somalia and Kitara of Uganda. This match is scheduled to take place as part of the first preliminary round (round of 64). Therefore, Al Ahly will face the winner of that match in the next round of the tournament.
CAF had exempted Al Ahly from playing in the first preliminary round, benefiting from their continental ranking. The exemption also extended to a number of other clubs, most notably USM Alger of Algeria, FAR Rabat of Morocco, CR Belouizdad of Algeria, and Raja Casablanca of Morocco. Maniema Union of DR Congo, Dynamos of Zimbabwe, and Azam FC of Tanzania were also exempted.
The preliminary rounds of the Confederation Cup are expected to begin in September 2026. The group stage will take place between November 2026 and January 2027. Finally, the season will conclude with the final match between May 9 and 31, 2027.
