Paris, France – Kylian Mbappe, captain and striker of the French national team, confirmed that Les Bleus are aiming to win the 2026 World Cup title, stressing that the team is not thinking about being satisfied with achieving intermediate accomplishments during the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup kicks off on June 11 and runs until July 19. For the first time in the tournament’s history, 48 teams will participate.
The French national team will compete in the tournament in Group I, which also includes Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. They will begin their campaign against Senegal on June 16, then face Iraq on June 23, and finally conclude their group stage matches against Norway on June 26.
Mbappe said, in statements reported by the Spanish newspaper AS: “We are going to the United States to win the World Cup, that is the goal we are striving to achieve.”
He added: “I don’t understand the talk about reaching the semi-finals being a success. If that’s the limit of our ambitions, what will we do after reaching it? Will we stop competing and go home?”
The French captain concluded his remarks by saying: “I don’t believe in this way of thinking. Our goal is clear, which is to win the World Cup again, because it is the dream that unites all the players of the national team”.
