Lausanne, Switzerland – The International Olympic Committee’s Ethics Commission has refused to consider the complaint filed against Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, which accused him of committing violations related to the principle of political neutrality.

According to the French website Foot Mercato, the complaint was filed by an organization and was based on what it described as “repeated violations of political neutrality” due to Infantino’s relationship with US President Donald Trump.

A spokesperson for the International Olympic Committee explained that the issue does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Ethics Committee, noting that each international federation enjoys complete independence in managing its internal affairs.

The spokesperson said: “The Ethics Commission of the International Olympic Committee concluded that the Olympic Charter grants each international federation the independence and autonomy to manage its own affairs”.

This development comes at a time when Infantino is facing continued criticism following the 2026 World Cup, which was hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, amid widespread controversy over a number of decisions that accompanied the competition.

The most prominent criticisms included the controversy surrounding the suspension of the penalty for the expulsion of American Folarin Balogun, in addition to objections to some of the refereeing decisions witnessed in the tournament matches.
