Berlin, Germany – Jurgen Klopp, the new coach of the German national team, sent clear messages during his first appearance after taking over the leadership of “Die Mannschaft”, stressing that he will not cling to his position if he loses the confidence of officials or if the pressure turns into targeting his family.
The German Football Association announced on Friday the appointment of Klopp as the national team’s manager on a contract extending until 2030, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who left his post after Germany’s exit from the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.
Klopp said during his introductory press conference: “It’s an extraordinary feeling to be here. What I’ve experienced over the past few days is like a movie playing before my eyes, and taking on the responsibility of coaching the German national team holds great value for me”.
He added: “I was aware of the magnitude of this task before accepting it, but when you become the head of the national team, you feel the weight of the responsibility more than ever. Looking at my career, I never imagined I would reach this moment, and therefore I consider it a very special milestone”.
The German coach also spoke about the nature of the next stage, stressing that he does not cling to the position no matter how valuable it is, saying: “The moment everyone feels that I am not the right person, I will leave. If the German Football Association sees that I have failed, I will not demand any compensation, and I will leave immediately”.
Klopp addressed a direct message to the media and fans, demanding that his family be kept out of any criticism, saying: “Criticize me if I make a mistake or we don’t achieve the required results, that’s part of my job, but if it extends to my family and they are not left out of the pressure, I will leave the position”.
He concluded his statements by emphasizing that training the German national team represents the most important stage in his career, adding: “All my focus now is on work. I am not thinking about any step after the national team, and I hope that this experience will be the pinnacle of my coaching career”.
