New York, USA – The United Nations has announced a new international initiative, featuring some of the world’s most prominent footballers, as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The initiative aims to leverage the global popularity of football to support humanitarian and development causes.
It focuses on promoting messages of peace and tolerance among peoples, as well as highlighting issues related to youth, education, and health, through awareness campaigns led by football stars across different continents.
The international organization seeks to capitalize on the immense public interest surrounding the World Cup to reach a broad spectrum of young people in various countries, particularly in regions facing social and economic challenges.
A number of current and former players are expected to participate in the initiative through field programs and digital events, in addition to collaborating with local and international football federations.
This step is part of the United Nations’ efforts to promote the role of sport as a diplomatic and cultural tool, capable of building bridges of communication between peoples and fostering the values of coexistence.
