Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed that the greatest challenge facing Lebanon in the coming period is the comprehensive reconstruction process. This comes after the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied towns and the deployment of Lebanese army units along the southern border. These units were deployed to enforce state sovereignty and ensure the security and stability of the affected areas. The president’s remarks came during his meeting with the board of directors of the National Council for Scientific Research. He indicated that the Lebanese government will continue to work in parallel and in conjunction on two key strategic tracks. The first track involves rebuilding the state and strengthening the foundations of its public institutions. The second track focuses on ending the current situation in southern Lebanon. This aims to restore security and stability to the region and affirms the state’s sovereignty over all its national territory without exception.
The role of the National Council for Scientific Research in supporting the government’s reconstruction efforts
President Aoun emphasized that the role of the National Council for Scientific Research is a fundamental and indispensable pillar for rebuilding and developing state institutions. He explained that this role is fulfilled by providing the government and public administrations with various scientific and precise studies and research necessary to improve and develop government work mechanisms and decision-making processes. He also considered the process of building the state and reforming its institutions to be a shared national responsibility. This process requires the concerted and intensified efforts of all official and national institutions and bodies in the country.
Trust in institutions through achievements and a call to redouble research efforts
The Lebanese president affirmed that building public and institutional trust can only be achieved through practical and tangible accomplishments that directly impact citizens’ lives and yield real results on the ground. At the conclusion of his meeting with the council members, he urged them to redouble their efforts to provide the highest levels of scientific and research support. The country needs this support across all vital sectors to ensure the success of upcoming development and reconstruction plans.
