Tel Aviv, Israel – Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett made provocative statements, as reported by the Ynet news site. He asserted that if he were to return to power, he would fundamentally alter the current deterrence equation. Bennett further explained that any potential attack by Hezbollah would be met with a direct response, targeting Iran itself.
In a related development, Bennett vowed to take drastic political and diplomatic steps, including declaring Qatar a “hostile state.” He added plans concerning the future of the Gaza Strip, stating that the goal is to remove both Turkey and Qatar from Gaza and replace them with Egypt, while insisting on maintaining Israel’s complete freedom of military action within the Gaza Strip.
These developments on the ground and in the political arena coincide with escalating threats exchanged between Tehran and Washington. This comes amidst a continued stalemate in diplomatic efforts to end the war that erupted on February 28 following joint Israeli-American strikes against Iran.
In this context, reports published by the Financial Times, citing sources close to the Iranian regime, revealed that Tehran has been exploring alternatives and options for targeting American military assets, interests, and sites in Europe. This includes, in particular, Southeast European countries such as Bulgaria, should US President Donald Trump escalate the military confrontation or carry out his threats to strike Iranian infrastructure. These moves reflect a growing Iranian desire to raise the cost of any future confrontation with the United States, amidst a complete absence of prospects for a political settlement.
