Liverpool, England – Liverpool suffered a major blow after announcing that their French striker Hugo Ekieke had suffered a serious tear in his Achilles tendon, which will keep him out of action for a long period.
Ekitiki was injured during the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, which Liverpool lost 2-0, and he was stretchered off the pitch during the first half.
Liverpool confirmed in an official statement on Thursday that medical tests revealed the player has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, meaning he will be out for the remainder of the season.
The club explained that the injury will also prevent Ekitiki from participating with the French national team in the 2026 World Cup.
The statement indicated that the player will undergo a treatment and rehabilitation program, and that any updates on his condition will be announced in the coming period. It also confirmed that he has the full support of the club.
