Cairo, Egypt – Mohamed El-Damaty, a member of the board of directors of Al-Ahly Club, commented on the behavior of Ahmed Sayed Zizo, a player of the first football team, towards Hisham Nasr, the vice president of Zamalek, during Al-Ahly’s crowning as champions of the Egyptian Super Cup.
Al Ahly won the Egyptian Super Cup after defeating Zamalek 2-0. The match between the two teams took place on Sunday at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.
Al-Damati said in statements via MBC Egypt 2: “Thank God, this is a championship we needed, and the results in the past period were unsatisfactory for the fans. This championship will bring things back to normal, God willing.”
He added: “God willing, this will be a new beginning for the technical director and will add to his record. It will build trust between him and the fans, and give comfort to the football management at Al-Ahly.”
He continued, “The Al-Ahly and Zamalek match is always exciting and back-and-forth, and it has a different flavor, regardless of what happened from the stands towards Zizo.”
Regarding Zizo’s performance against Zamalek, he commented: “Zizo is a truly professional player and one of the players who takes care of himself. He has a mentality that deserves to be present in Al-Ahly, and he was one of the best players in the Zamalek match. God rewarded all his hard work and effort with his first championship with Al-Ahly. He created Ben Sharqi’s goal, and he was the best player in the match.”
He continued: “Winning has a different taste against Zamalek, and Zamalek matches are always tense and competitive, contrary to what people say.”
Regarding what Zizo did on the podium, he said: “I saw Zizo after the match, he went and greeted the Zamalek coaching staff and all the players, and Captain Ayman Younis. So it is clear that there is no problem with the system in general, but with certain individuals. His behavior is not a big deal, and I think there is some exaggeration a bit, and this is a man under pressure. There were background issues that we do not know about when he renewed his contract with Zamalek, he knows them best, and the incident is over.”
Zizo had refused to shake hands with Zamalek’s vice president, Hisham Nasr, on the podium after the team’s Egyptian Super Cup victory. This angered Nasr, who complained to Al Ahly’s treasurer, Khaled Mortagy, who was also on the podium.
