Catania, Italy – Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano, continued its violent activity for the tenth consecutive day, spewing massive amounts of volcanic ash and gases into the skies over Sicily. This caused significant disruptions to air traffic and affected thousands of tourists stranded in Catania and surrounding areas.
The rising ash cloud led to the cancellation and diversion of numerous flights to and from Catania International Airport. Italian authorities announced they are closely monitoring the volcanic activity and are taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of citizens and visitors.
Social media was abuzz with stunning images and videos of lava flowing from the volcano’s craters, while clouds of smoke and ash blanketed large parts of the island. These scenes captivated millions worldwide, despite causing widespread disruption to transportation and tourism.
Authorities confirmed that the volcanic activity remains under constant monitoring, noting that no casualties have been reported so far. Civil protection teams continue to assess the situation and issue necessary warnings to residents and tourists, particularly in areas near the volcano’s slopes.
Mount Etna is one of the world’s most active volcanoes, and the surrounding area experiences frequent eruptions throughout the year. However, this current eruption is considered one of the most significant during the summer season, given its direct impact on travel and tourism in Sicily.
