Beijing, China – Twenty-one people have died in a landslide in a mountainous region of northwest China. Rescue teams are continuing to search for missing persons amid challenging field conditions caused by persistent bad weather.
Local authorities stated that the landslide was triggered by heavy rains that saturated the soil, causing massive boulders and mudslides. As a result, several houses and buildings were buried, and widespread damage was inflicted on infrastructure in the area.
Chinese authorities deployed hundreds of rescue and relief personnel, along with heavy equipment and drones, to comb the disaster site and search for survivors. Residents were evacuated from areas at risk of further landslides to ensure their safety.
Authorities confirmed that emergency teams are working around the clock to clear debris and provide medical care to the injured. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident and assess the extent of the damage.
Several regions in China experience frequent floods and landslides during the rainy season. This prompts authorities to issue continuous warnings and take precautionary measures to minimize human and material losses.
