Mecca, Saudi Arabia – The Saudi Ministry of Health has warned pilgrims performing Hajj of the dangers of heat exhaustion and sunstroke, especially with the high temperatures expected during the Hajj season. The Ministry stressed the importance of adhering to preventative guidelines to ensure the safety of pilgrims while performing the rituals.
The Ministry explained that heat exhaustion is one of the most significant health challenges that pilgrims may face, resulting from prolonged direct exposure to sunlight and overcrowding in the holy sites. This can lead to fainting or severe exhaustion if not addressed promptly and correctly.
The Saudi Ministry of Health urged pilgrims to avoid walking in direct sunlight during peak hours and to use umbrellas for shade. It also recommended drinking plenty of water and fluids, wearing light and loose-fitting clothing, and taking regular breaks in shaded areas.
The Ministry stressed the importance of monitoring for early signs of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, headache, excessive sweating, or dry mouth, and immediately seeking medical attention at health centers located throughout the holy sites if any unusual symptoms appear.
The Ministry confirmed that it has increased the readiness of health facilities and medical teams in Mecca and the holy sites to provide immediate care for emergencies. This is part of a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety of pilgrims during the Hajj season.
