Sharjah, UAE – In a move that reflects the Emirate of Sharjah’s move towards launching an advanced phase of government work based on artificial intelligence, the Sharjah Digital Department signed a memorandum of understanding with Dell Technologies to launch an integrated program to build institutional capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence. This enhances the readiness of government agencies to adopt advanced technologies and employ them in developing services and improving the quality of life in the emirate.

This cooperation comes within the efforts of the Sharjah Digital Department to establish an integrated digital system that will lead the transition towards a more efficient, proactive and people-centred government. By empowering national competencies and promoting the use of data and smart technologies to support decision-making and improve government performance.

The agreement was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah Digital Department. Walid Yahya, General Manager of Dell Technologies in the Gulf. In the presence of Her Excellency Engineer Lamia Obaid Al Hussan Al Shamsi, Director of Sharjah Digital Department. His Excellency Majid Al Marri, Director of the Human Resources Department in Sharjah.

Building institutional capacities for artificial intelligence

The MoU provides for the implementation of an integrated institutional capacity building program in the field of artificial intelligence, including applied training and knowledge transfer. Organizing sessions and workshops targeting executive and administrative leaders, as well as technical competencies in various sectors.

The program aims to develop practical models on how to use and benefit from artificial intelligence applications within the work environment. Transforming these technologies from experimental tools into operational solutions that support decision-making, enhance efficiency, and contribute to the development of more innovative, proactive, and seamless government services.

This initiative also enhances the readiness of government personnel to keep pace with rapid technological transformations. The use of artificial intelligence has become established as an essential element in designing future services, which reflects positively on the customer experience and quality of life in the emirate.

His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of the Sharjah Digital Department, stressed that this agreement represents a strategic step within the path of digital transformation in the emirate.

“We view AI not only as a technical tool, but as a key driver for redesigning government work in Sharjah,” he said. Through this partnership, we work to build sustainable institutional capabilities that enable government agencies to employ artificial intelligence in developing a more efficient and innovative integrated services system that enhances quality of life.

His Excellency added: “This initiative comes within the implementation of Sharjah’s Digital Transformation Strategy 2026–2028, and aims to raise the readiness of government agencies to adopt artificial intelligence technologies and enhance integration between systems and data”. To support the development of a smart and interconnected government system.”

His Excellency pointed out that partnership with the private sector represents a fundamental pillar in achieving this transformation. By transferring knowledge, leveraging global best experiences and practices, and accelerating the adoption of advanced digital solutions.

For his part, Walid Yahya, General Manager of Dell Technologies in the Gulf, said: “We are pleased with our partnership with the Sharjah Digital Department, and we are pleased to be part of the Emirate of Sharjah’s journey towards a future based on adopting the latest digital technologies, most notably artificial intelligence”. Through this cooperation, we seek to transfer our global expertise and enable government agencies to employ the latest technologies to build more quality and effective business models.”

Integrated digital system

This agreement comes within the framework of Sharjah Digital Department’s role in leading digital transformation across the emirate, through policy development, capacity building, and enhancing integration between government agencies. This contributes to building a sustainable and interconnected digital system that supports the digital economy, improves the quality of services provided to individuals and businesses, and places people at the heart of the development process.
