  • Death of a senior official in the “Revolutionary Guard”

Tehran, Iran – Iran witnessed a series of rapid security developments on Tuesday that cast a shadow over the domestic scene. State media reported the killing of two members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the wounding of two others in an armed attack targeting them in Kermanshah province in western Iran.

An official statement explained that unknown assailants carried out a surprise attack, opening fire in front of the targeted individuals’ home, in an incident reflecting the ongoing security challenges in border areas. Meanwhile, Iranian authorities confirmed they have launched a comprehensive investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the full extent of the attack. This comes at a time when the Revolutionary Guard is facing increasing pressure on the ground.

Escalation in Kurdish areas

In parallel with the Kermanshah incident, the Sharestan region, located on the strategic axis linking the cities of Mahabad and Piranshahr in West Azerbaijan province, is witnessing heightened security tensions. Violent armed clashes have erupted between the Revolutionary Guard and an armed Kurdish opposition faction. The clashes began on Saturday evening and continued intermittently until Sunday morning, June 29, 2026.

The clashes escalated when Revolutionary Guard artillery units launched a heavy bombardment targeting the Valizadeh mine area, which had been previously evacuated. The artillery shelling quickly turned into direct clashes after the Kurdish faction responded to the attack. Although local media outlets reported casualties among the Revolutionary Guard during these clashes, this information has not yet been confirmed by any independent sources. There remains an official media blackout regarding the outcome of the confrontations.

Death of a senior official in the “Revolutionary Guard”

In another context, the Fars News Agency announced on Monday the death of Second Admiral Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the political deputy of the Supreme Leader’s office in the Revolutionary Guard’s naval force, in a traffic accident in Kerman province.

According to the report, the admiral’s car overturned on a main road. Despite the arrival of rescue and police teams at the scene and his transfer to the nearest medical center, he succumbed to his severe injuries.

The high-ranking official’s death has raised questions in local circles. Authorities have announced an immediate investigation into the circumstances and details of the accident.
