Tel Aviv, Israel – As part of its ongoing efforts to thwart foreign intelligence infiltrations, the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet), in cooperation with the Israeli police, announced on Monday the arrest of an Israeli citizen in his thirties, a resident of Bat Yam. He was arrested on suspicion of espionage for Iranian intelligence agencies.
Details of the intelligence operation
According to a joint statement issued by the security services, this arrest was the culmination of a complex and covert investigation conducted by the Ayalon District Crime Unit in partnership with the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency). The statement clarified that an indictment has been filed against the suspect. Furthermore, a formal indictment is expected to be filed against him within the next few days.
Initial investigations revealed that contact between the suspect and the Iranian side began in late 2025 via social media platforms. According to Israeli authorities, the suspect agreed to carry out various security tasks for Iranian entities in exchange for payments transferred to him during that period. This relationship intensified in the months leading up to his arrest in May 2026. Evidence gathered by security services proved that the suspect had carried out several “security tasks” under the direct orders of Iranian intelligence officials.
heightened security warnings
Following this incident, Israeli security services issued a stern warning to citizens and residents against responding to any contact with suspicious foreign entities. They also warned that agreeing to carry out any tasks on behalf of these entities constitutes a “serious violation of the law” and places national security at grave risk.
The security establishment confirmed in its statement that it will continue close coordination among all relevant defense agencies to monitor, identify, and thwart any attempts to collaborate with “hostile entities.” Furthermore, it pledged to bring those involved to justice to ensure the protection of Israel’s security and its citizens.
This incident comes at a highly sensitive time, as the Israeli-Iranian front witnesses an unprecedented military and intelligence escalation. As a result, the “shadow war” between Tehran and Tel Aviv is now coming into the open with the exposure of these cells. This poses an additional security challenge for Israeli authorities amidst the country’s state of high alert.
