Beijing, China – Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed that his country is ready to work with Uzbekistan to elevate bilateral relations to a new level and usher in what he described as a “golden decade” of cooperation and partnership between the two nations. This came during Xi’s meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meetings. The two leaders discussed the future of bilateral relations and ways to expand areas of joint cooperation.
The Chinese president stated that relations between Beijing and Tashkent have witnessed remarkable development in recent years, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the current momentum and strengthening political trust and strategic coordination between the two countries. China attaches increasing importance to enhancing its relations with Uzbekistan, considering it a pivotal country in Central Asia. China is particularly interested in developing cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, energy, transportation, and infrastructure.
Beijing seeks to expand economic cooperation with countries in the region through trade connectivity projects and the development of land corridors, which will boost the flow of goods and investments and open new markets for Chinese companies. For its part, Tashkent sees its partnership with China as an opportunity to enhance development projects, improve infrastructure, and increase investment. It also benefits from its strategic geographic location in the heart of Central Asia. Xi Jinping’s talk of a new “golden decade” reflects China’s intention to deepen its partnership with Uzbekistan in the coming years. He also seeks to transform growing political ties into broader economic and strategic cooperation.
