Brasilia, Brazil – A recent study revealed that approximately 45 million Brazilians have been victims of digital fraud, as scammers increasingly rely on personal data and modern technology to carry out more convincing scams. The findings showed that scammers exploit information such as names, phone numbers, and identity details to send messages and make calls that appear legitimate, making it more difficult to detect scams before victims fall prey to them.

This coincided with growing concerns about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in developing fraudulent methods, as it can be employed to craft convincing messages, create fake content, and mimic victims’ usual communication styles. The study revealed that millions of Brazilians have already fallen victim to scams involving the exploitation of their personal data, while the majority expressed concern about how their information could be used by AI applications. These figures highlight a growing digital challenge in Brazil, with AI becoming a tool that fraudsters can leverage to expand their operations and make them more sophisticated and convincing.
