Kinshasa, Congo – The World Health Organization representative in the Democratic Republic of Congo warned of the continued Ebola outbreak, stressing that the current situation remains worrying and does not allow for optimism. This comes as new cases continue to emerge and the spread of the infection remains difficult to control. She explained that efforts to combat the virus face significant challenges, most notably the need for more medical and logistical resources. Furthermore, access to some affected areas and the provision of necessary care to those infected and their contacts are difficult.

She emphasized that controlling the outbreak is still possible, but it requires swift and coordinated action. She also highlighted the importance of strengthening surveillance, early detection, and contact tracing. Furthermore, the necessary medical supplies and personnel must be provided to manage the cases. Health authorities are working with the World Health Organization and international partners to contain the spread of the virus and prevent its transmission to new areas. At the same time, the rapid detection and isolation of cases remains one of the most critical factors in limiting the spread of the disease.

The organization stressed the need for continued international support for the Democratic Republic of Congo, warning that a lack of resources or a delayed response could make controlling the epidemic even more difficult. This challenge is particularly acute in areas already under immense security, humanitarian, and health strain. Efforts to contain Ebola remain contingent on the ability of authorities and health organizations to act swiftly. However, there are concerns that the outbreak could spread further if the necessary resources to combat the virus are not available.
