Kyiv, Ukraine – Security reports and analyses have revealed the growing activity of cross-border smuggling networks linking conflict zones in Yemen with the war front in Ukraine. These networks exploit the security vacuum and armed conflicts to transport weapons, equipment, and personnel. They use complex routes stretching from the Middle East to Europe.

According to international security experts, these networks rely on indirect sea, land, and air routes. In addition, they utilize intermediaries, shell companies, and forged documents to conceal the shipments’ routes. This makes tracking and stopping them extremely difficult.

It is estimated that smugglers exploit the fragile situation in some areas. Furthermore, lax oversight at some ports and border crossings facilitates the transfer of equipment. It also enables the circumvention of international restrictions and sanctions. This generates substantial profits for criminal networks.

Observers believe that the growth of these activities poses an increasing challenge to regional and international security. This is particularly true given the ongoing war in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East. Consequently, this situation is prompting many countries to strengthen intelligence and security cooperation. They are seeking to pursue smuggling networks and disrupt illicit supply lines.
