Tel Aviv, Israel – Haaretz newspaper revealed that Israel informed the “Peace Council” of its objection to any proposal that would leave weapons collected from Hamas in the Gaza Strip untouched. Israel reiterated its insistence on the complete destruction of these weapons as part of any future security arrangements.
According to the newspaper, the Israeli position emerged during discussions concerning mechanisms for dealing with Hamas’s arsenal within the framework of political and security efforts. These efforts aim to solidify the ceasefire and manage the post-war phase in the Gaza Strip.
The report added that Israel considers the complete disposal of collected weapons a prerequisite to ensuring they are not reused or transferred to other armed factions. It also views their continued possession, even after confiscation, as a future security threat.
This development comes as international and regional consultations continue regarding the future of the Gaza Strip. These consultations are taking place amidst differing views on disarmament mechanisms, security arrangements, and the administration of the Strip in the coming phase.
