Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it had killed two senior commanders in Hamas’s military wing during separate airstrikes targeting central and southern Gaza. The operations were described as precise and deliberate.
Targeting the leader of an elite cell in the southern Gaza Strip
The Israeli military confirmed in an official statement that it killed Salim Jamal Abdel Rahman Abu al-Bad, a commander of an elite Hamas cell and a key participant in the October 7 attack. This followed an airstrike carried out in the southern Gaza Strip last Saturday.
The commander of the Maghazi Brigade was killed in the central Gaza Strip.
The army added that in another attack on Friday in the central Gaza Strip, Muhammad Abdul Nasser Muhammad al-Khatib was also killed. Al-Khatib was the commander of the Maghazi Brigade of Hamas. Moreover, his death was part of ongoing Israeli military operations in the Strip.
Measures to avoid civilian casualties and protect troops
The Israeli military explained that the two targeted members of Hamas’s military wing were planning attacks against Israeli forces operating in the field. Additionally, the statement noted that stringent measures were taken to minimize the risk of civilian casualties prior to the attacks. These measures included the use of precision munitions. Furthermore, there was reliance on continuous aerial surveillance to ensure the accuracy of the military targets.
