Stockholm, Sweden – Swedish authorities announced they are sending specialized firefighting aircraft to France to support Paris’s efforts to control wildfires that have broken out in several regions due to heat waves and severe weather conditions.
The Swedish move is part of the European Union’s disaster response cooperation mechanism, whereby member states contribute equipment and specialized teams to countries facing widespread fires, with the aim of limiting the spread of the flames and protecting people and property.
Aircraft are participating in aerial firefighting operations alongside French teams, focusing on the most affected areas, as French authorities continue their efforts to contain the fires and prevent them from spreading to residential areas or additional forests.
Several European countries are experiencing a significant rise in temperatures during the summer, increasing the risk of wildfires and prompting the European Union to strengthen coordination among member states to provide rapid support in the event of natural disasters and protect lives and the environment.
