U.S. President Donald Trump affirmed that his administration will discuss mechanisms for the Lebanese Army to assume control over southern villages vacated by Hezbollah. Concurrently, Trump warned the Houthi militia against threatening Red Sea maritime routes and reaffirmed that the naval blockade against Iran remains strictly enforced.

Lebanese Army Deployment and South Security Arrangements

Speaking following White House talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Trump emphasized that Washington is closely monitoring the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces in southern border towns. The focus remains on implementing pilot zones designed to restore state authority and prevent armed groups from re-establishing positions.

Trump reiterated that international efforts center on stabilizing the ceasefire framework, asserting U.S. readiness to assist the Lebanese Armed Forces in exercising full military authority over its sovereign territory.

Firm Warning to Houthis and Safeguard of Maritime Routes

Addressing recent threats by Yemen’s Houthi militia regarding maritime blockades, Trump delivered a direct warning: “We’ll see what happens, and if something happens, we will act.” He emphasized that Washington remains fully prepared to take military action to protect global shipping lines and regional allies.

Trump stressed that freedom of navigation and global energy transit remain critical red lines, asserting that U.S. forces positioned in the region will counter any attempt to disrupt commercial sea lanes or target regional ports.

Escalating Pressure and Naval Containment of Iran

Reinforcing Washington’s posture toward Tehran, Trump characterized the ongoing naval blockade and economic pressure on Iran as “severe,” aiming to cut off financial streams to regional proxies and limit Iran’s operational reach.

Analysts view Trump’s remarks as a continuation of a two-pronged Middle East strategy: reinforcing official state institutions in Lebanon while applying maximum economic and military leverage against Tehran and its allied networks.

Trump’s statements highlight a comprehensive Washington policy linking the empowerment of Lebanon’s official military institutions with robust deterrence in the Red Sea and intensified naval containment of Iran.
