Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Islamabad on Monday for high-level talks with Pakistani officials, amidst intensified regional diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating military tensions between the United States and Iran.

Regional Diplomacy to Sustain Mediation

Upon arrival, Momeni and his accompanying high-level delegation were received by Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who expressed hope that the visit would yield positive outcomes for regional stability and bilateral cooperation.

The visit comes as Pakistan continues to act as a key diplomatic bridge between Tehran and Washington. During his stay, Momeni is scheduled to hold meetings with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to review the evolving security dynamics.

Tehran Confirms Ongoing Indirect Channels

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that diplomatic channels with the United States remain active through third-party mediators, noting that Tehran has received new proposals aimed at restoring calm in recent days.

Islamabad continues to encourage both Washington and Tehran to halt military actions and resume technical negotiations under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed last month by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, seeking to prevent a total breakdown of the interim arrangement and protect vital maritime and regional security.

Minister Momeni’s visit underscores Pakistan’s central role as a mediator attempting to keep backchannel negotiations alive. The outcome of these discussions will test whether regional diplomacy can successfully curb military friction and rebuild a viable path toward sustained negotiations.
