Cairo, Egypt – The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, condemned in the strongest terms the Iranian attacks that targeted the UAE oil tankers “Mombasa” and “Al Bahia”
as they passed through the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters.
The attacks resulted in the death of one crew member and the injury of others.
Full solidarity with the UAE
In a statement, Al-Yamahi expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the victim and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
He affirmed the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and declared its support
for all measures taken by the UAE to protect its security, stability, economic interests, and sovereignty.
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament noted that the attack represents a dangerous escalation
targeting international maritime security and threatening the stability of the region.
He affirmed the Arab Parliament’s support for the UAE in confronting these threats.
Violation of international law and freedom of navigation
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament stressed that targeting the two oil tankers constitutes
a flagrant violation of international law and the freedom of maritime navigation.
It also represents a direct threat to the security of international shipping lanes and the safety of commercial vessels.
He added that the attack is a serious breach of relevant Security Council resolutions,
which emphasize the need to protect international navigation and prevent any threats to it.
He warned of the repercussions of continued attacks on global trade security and energy supplies.
Call for international action
Al-Yamahi called on the international community and the Security Council to fulfill
their responsibilities regarding the repeated threats targeting international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
He demanded decisive measures to ensure the protection of international maritime routes
and deter any attacks that threaten their security and safety.
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament emphasized that maintaining
the security of navigation in vital straits and waterways is a shared international responsibility.
Therefore, it necessitates strengthening efforts aimed at protecting global trade and preserving regional and international stability.
