Manama, Bahrain – The head of the Terrorism Crimes Prosecution in the Kingdom of Bahrain announced on Tuesday that the High Criminal Court had sentenced three defendants to life imprisonment in two separate cases related to espionage for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The sentences also included the confiscation of all items seized in connection with the cases.
Details of the first case: Recruitment and monitoring of targets
The Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported that investigations revealed the first defendant—a wanted fugitive abroad working for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard—recruited the second defendant, a resident of the Kingdom. The second defendant’s role was to provide the Iranian side with precise information and coordinates of vital locations in Bahrain. This was intended to facilitate targeting these locations during what the prosecution described as “Iranian aggression.”
Details of the second case: Supporting terrorist operations electronically
In the second case, investigations proved the involvement of a defendant who communicated directly with online accounts operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The defendant sent videos documenting attacks targeting vital installations in Bahrain. Furthermore, he identified new locations and coordinates for strategic targets within the country. This posed a direct threat to the security and safety of citizens and residents.
Public Prosecution investigations
The Public Prosecution immediately launched its investigations upon receiving the reports, conducting extensive interrogations of the suspects residing within the country, hearing witness testimonies, and enlisting the help of technical experts to examine the seized electronic devices that proved their involvement. The investigations concluded that the information provided by the suspects was a fundamental basis for the attacks targeting vital facilities in the Kingdom, thereby jeopardizing its stability.
Legal safeguards and deterrent message
The defendants were referred to the High Criminal Court, which heard the two cases in separate sessions, ensuring all their legal rights and the presence of their defense counsel. At the conclusion of the trials, life sentences were handed down. The Public Prosecution emphasized in its statement that “espionage with hostile foreign states is one of the most serious crimes affecting national security.” The Public Prosecution affirmed its continued commitment to firmly confronting anyone who attempts to harm the Kingdom’s interests. These sentences serve as a deterrent message within the framework of Bahrain’s efforts to protect its security and stability against foreign interference and terrorist activities orchestrated by regional actors.
