Prague, Czech Republic – Czech Foreign Minister Petr Mětsenka announced that his country is in talks with Israeli companies to purchase several air defense systems.
This comes as part of Prague’s efforts to bolster its defense capabilities and modernize its air protection systems.
He also confirmed that the negotiations include the Spyder and Arrow systems, in addition to other defense systems.
Negotiations with Israeli companies
Matsenka’s remarks came during a press conference he held in Jerusalem with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
He explained that the Czech government is considering several options for upgrading its air defense system.
He noted that discussions are still ongoing with the Israeli side regarding a number of advanced defense systems.
In response to a question about purchasing the Spyder system, the Czech minister added
that his country is discussing the acquisition of air defense systems with Israel.
He emphasized that these systems represent cutting-edge technology in this field, making them an important option for Prague.
Interest in the “Spider” and “Arrow” systems
Matsenka indicated that the negotiations also include Israel’s Arrow missile defense system, along with other defense systems.
He did not disclose details regarding the value of the potential deals or the timeline for their completion.
This trend comes as several European countries seek to bolster their defense capabilities in the face of growing security challenges.
Interest is also increasing in Israeli air defense systems, which have proven effective in intercepting missiles and drones.
Growing defense cooperation
These talks reflect the continued growth of defense cooperation between Israel and the Czech Republic.
The Czech Republic is one of Tel Aviv’s key European partners in the fields of security and military industries.
The two sides have not yet announced the signing of any final agreement.
However, statements by the Czech Foreign Minister confirm that consultations are ongoing,
with Prague keen to acquire Israel’s latest air defense systems to enhance the readiness of its armed forces.
