Beirut, Lebanon – The spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirmed that most of the violations observed in southern Lebanon originate from the Israeli side.
She noted that the level of violence has decreased compared to previous periods. However, violations on the ground continue to be recorded.
Violence has decreased, but violations continue
The spokesperson explained that UNIFIL forces have observed a decrease in the level of violence in southern Lebanon. However, they continue to monitor frequent violations on the ground. She emphasized that the situation requires continued international efforts to maintain stability.
She added that the UN forces hope to achieve a complete cessation of violence and violations. This would contribute to protecting civilians and preventing any further escalation in the region.
Continued support for local communities
The spokesperson noted that UNIFIL forces continue to provide assistance to local communities in southern Lebanon, despite the scale of the destruction and challenges left by the recent clashes.
She emphasized that supporting the local population is a core part of the mission’s mandate. This includes monitoring the security situation and working to enhance stability in its areas of deployment.
Commitment to de-escalation
The spokesperson stressed the importance of all parties committing to de-escalation and respecting the cessation of hostilities arrangements. She affirmed that UNIFIL continues to coordinate with relevant parties to prevent further deterioration of the situation and maintain security in the border area.
