Tehran, Iran – The Foreign Minister of the Afghan Taliban government, Amir Khan Mottaki, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif participated in the farewell ceremony of the late Iranian leader Ali Khamenei. They saluted him in front of his coffin in the Grand Mosque of Tehran, as part of the participation of regional and international delegations in the funeral ceremony.

Footage broadcast by Iranian state television showed the Taliban’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, paying his respects to Khamenei’s coffin during the funeral ceremonies in the Iranian capital.
Muttaqi’s visit to Tehran came hours after Ahmad Massoud, leader of one of the main anti-Taliban groups, offered his condolences on Khamenei’s death. This development reflects the diverse reactions of Afghan factions to the event.
Shahbaz Sharif leads a Pakistani delegation
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tehran at the head of an official delegation, accompanied by Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir. They participated in the ceremony to pay their respects to Khamenei’s coffin inside the Grand Mosque.
Pakistan’s participation comes at a time when Islamabad is playing a role in regional communications related to security and political issues in the region.
