SAN DIEGO, USA – The Abu Dhabi Health Department has signed a strategic partnership with the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. To support oncology research powered by artificial intelligence, translational science and bioaffinity-based innovation. In a move that establishes Abu Dhabi as a global center for innovation in life sciences, accelerates cancer research and transforms scientific discoveries into innovative therapeutic solutions with tangible impact.

Future Health – A Global Initiative from Abu Dhabi also joined the MIT-led Cancer Bioconvergence Alliance as a founding member. This will enhance global cooperation in the fields of oncology and precision medicine, and open broader horizons for exchanging expertise. Accelerating scientific discoveries, attracting talent, and developing innovative health solutions by leveraging the emirate’s smart life sciences ecosystem.

The two collaborations were announced during the Biotechnology Innovation Organization’s 2026 World Conference. Located in San Diego, USA.

Supporting oncology research

The strategic partnership between the department and the Koch Institute aims to support oncology research supported by artificial intelligence and translational sciences. Innovation based on bio-convergence, by linking leading global research expertise with Abu Dhabi’s advanced infrastructure, competencies and capabilities. This accelerates the pace of innovation and enhances the development, testing and scaling of health solutions, which reflects positively on patients in Abu Dhabi and around the world.

These partnerships will support the implementation of large-scale clinical trials and translational research. Develop joint research databases and biobanks that promote population-based cancer research. In addition to preparing the next generation of scientific competencies through physician-scientist fellowship programs and bilateral exchange programs. And shared learning opportunities in the fields of clinical oncology, artificial intelligence, and computational biology.

Establishing a biorefinery

With support from the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, the alliance will establish a bioconverter to accelerate the growth of promising startups in the healthcare sector. Providing access to pioneering research programs and global scientific expertise for researchers, innovators and health sector leaders in Abu Dhabi. Specialized cooperation platforms covering the areas of prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
