São Paulo, Brazil — At least 23 people were killed and five others injured following a severe head-on collision between a passenger bus and a transport truck on the BR-373 highway in the southern state of Paraná. Consequently, Federal Highway Police and emergency medical units responded immediately to secure the scene and transport survivors. Furthermore, authorities temporarily restricted traffic along the highway to clear wreckage and initiate forensic evaluations.

Operational Details and Casualty Toll

Federal Highway Police confirmed that the crash occurred around 3:00 AM local time, resulting in immediate fatalities primarily among the bus passengers. Additionally, the severity of the impact killed the truck driver instantly at the site. Consequently, five surviving passengers were evacuated to regional hospitals for urgent medical care.

The incident caused significant traffic disruptions along the major transport corridor in Paraná. Additionally, rescue teams spent several hours clearing debris and restoring safe transit along the route.

Investigation and Highway Safety Factors

Brazilian authorities opened a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact factors leading to the head-on collision. Additionally, the fatal accident highlights recurring safety challenges on Brazil’s long-distance highways, particularly routes heavily utilized by commercial freight and intercity bus lines.

Finally, forensic teams continue gathering physical evidence and reviewing road visibility at the time of the impact. Ultimately, official findings regarding liability will be issued following the conclusion of the federal investigation.
