Cairo, Egypt – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit affirmed that the Arab League is continuing its development and modernization process, building upon a solid institutional legacy spanning eight decades. He emphasized that the General Secretariat is constantly working to enhance the efficiency of its institutional performance and keep pace with regional and international developments in a way that serves the interests of Arab states.
In his address, Aboul Gheit explained that the Arab League has, throughout its history, maintained its role as the primary umbrella for joint Arab action. This has been achieved despite the political and security challenges the region has witnessed. He noted that the current development process is based on a vision aimed at modernizing work mechanisms and raising the efficiency of the League’s affiliated institutions.
He added that the reform efforts include developing administrative and digital systems and strengthening coordination among member states. Furthermore, cooperation is expanding in economic, developmental, and security matters, keeping pace with the aspirations of the Arab peoples and enhancing the League’s ability to address current challenges.
The Secretary-General stressed that preserving the institutional legacy of the Arab League is a fundamental pillar of the development process. He also affirmed that the next phase will witness continued work on implementing institutional reform programs, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of joint Arab action and keeping pace with the rapid transformations on the regional and international stages.
