Krasnodar, Russia – A fire broke out at an oil refinery in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia following a drone attack that Russian authorities attributed to Ukraine. This is the latest in a series of escalating attacks between the two sides targeting energy facilities within Russian territory.
Local authorities announced that firefighters rushed to the scene and began bringing the blaze under control, while security measures were implemented around the facility. No initial reports of casualties have been released.
According to officials, the attack damaged parts of the refinery. Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the material damage and investigate the circumstances of the attack.
The attack on the Krasnodar refinery is part of a series of repeated attacks targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure. This comes at a time when the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is witnessing an escalation in the use of drones to strike strategic targets within both countries.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that its air defense systems intercepted a number of drones targeting several areas. It also indicated that necessary measures are being taken to protect vital facilities and infrastructure.
