Rome, Italy – Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Taiani confirmed that the continuity of the ceasefire in Lebanon requires Hezbollah’s commitment to stop
its military operations against Israel and comply with the decisions of the Lebanese government.
He also stressed the importance of respecting existing understandings to maintain stability and prevent the return of tension to the region.
Supporting the authority of the Lebanese state
Tayani explained that strengthening the role of Lebanese state institutions represents a fundamental pillar for maintaining security and stability.
He also stressed the need to enable the Lebanese government to exercise its full powers over the country’s territory,
in line with international resolutions and efforts aimed at maintaining calm on the southern border.
He pointed out that the international community attaches great importance to supporting Lebanon at this sensitive stage.
This support contributes to enhancing political and security stability and preventing any escalation that might threaten the entire region.
The Italian Foreign Minister stressed that maintaining the ceasefire requires all parties to adhere to restraint.
In addition, he called for avoiding any steps that would undermine diplomatic efforts to reduce tension.
A call to abide by international resolutions
The Italian Foreign Minister added that the continuation of the ceasefire contributes to the protection of civilians
and creates the appropriate conditions for addressing outstanding issues through political and diplomatic channels.
This is achieved without resorting to military confrontations.
He also stressed the importance of adhering to relevant international resolutions.
He considered their full implementation a necessary step towards achieving lasting stability in Lebanon and the region.
Furthermore, he called on all parties to cooperate with the Lebanese government
and the international community to support the ceasefire and consolidate security.
