Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese Army called on the Israeli occupation authorities to adopt existing military coordination mechanisms instead of carrying out repeated attacks and violations inside Lebanese territory.
It also stressed that the continuation of these practices threatens stability
and increases the likelihood of escalation on the southern border.
Coordination through approved military channels
The army explained in a statement that coordination through established military channels,
in cooperation with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), is the appropriate means to address any security
or field issues, while avoiding military operations that endanger civilians and infrastructure.
It noted that the repeated Israeli attacks constitute a clear violation of Lebanese sovereignty
and international resolutions, most notably Resolution 1701.
It also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities
and exert pressure to halt these violations and prevent their recurrence.
Tensions persist on Lebanon’s southern border
The Lebanese Army affirmed its continued commitment to carrying out its national duties in coordination
with UNIFIL forces to maintain security and stability in the south.
It will also continue to monitor the situation on the ground to ensure
the protection of citizens and prevent any security deterioration.
These statements come amidst ongoing tensions along Lebanon’s southern border.
At the same time, numerous warnings indicate that
any further escalation could negatively impact efforts to consolidate calm.
Meanwhile, regional and international efforts continue to prevent the spread of clashes and restore stability to the region.
