Kuwait – The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it summoned the Iranian chargé d’affaires to the country and informed him of Kuwait’s protest against what it described as “ongoing aggressions.”
It also confirmed that it had taken diplomatic measures, including declaring two Iranian diplomats persona non grata.
Summoning the Iranian chargé d’affaires
The Ministry stated in a press release that this step comes within
the framework of Kuwait’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and national interests.
It also emphasized the necessity of respecting the rules and norms of diplomacy governing relations between states.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that it summoned the Iranian
chargé d’affaires to inform him of Kuwait’s official position on the recent developments.
It also stressed its rejection of any practices or actions that contravene
the principles of respecting sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
The Ministry affirmed that Kuwait is following these developments with great concern.
It also stated that it is taking appropriate measures in accordance with relevant international laws and agreements.
Declaring two diplomats persona non grata
As part of its measures, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared two Iranian diplomats persona non grata
and ordered them to leave the country within the established diplomatic timeframe.
Declaring a diplomat persona non grata is one of the most prominent diplomatic tools used by states.
Countries employ this tool to express their rejection of behavior or actions they deem contrary to international norms and agreements.
Kuwait emphasized the importance of all diplomatic missions adhering to local laws and international agreements,
particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,
to ensure that relations between states are maintained within internationally recognized legal frameworks.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the country will continue to take
whatever measures it deems appropriate to preserve its security, stability, and sovereignty.
It also noted that respect for the rules of diplomatic conduct is fundamental to sound international relations
and enhances opportunities for cooperation and understanding among nations.
