Cairo, Egypt – Egypt strongly condemned the repeated and provocative storming by Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under the protection of Israeli police.
Egypt affirmed its complete rejection of practices that violate the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that these actions constitute a violation of international law.
Furthermore, it stated that they threaten stability in the occupied Palestinian territories and the region as a whole.
Condemnation of the raids and violations in Jerusalem
Egypt affirmed its rejection of the incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque. It clarified that the accompanying practices were unacceptable,
considering that the violation of religious sanctities and the continued transgressions in occupied Jerusalem constitute a dangerous escalation.
This escalation exacerbates tensions in the region.
Cairo reiterated its commitment to respecting the existing historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
It also reaffirmed its rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at altering this status quo.
Rejection of escalation in the West Bank
Egypt also condemned the ongoing Israeli escalation in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank.
It noted the raids, arrests, and attacks on Palestinians and their property.
Egypt affirmed that these practices constitute a flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
It added that they further complicate the situation on the ground and undermine efforts to achieve de-escalation.
Warning of the repercussions of escalation
Egypt warned of the dangers of continuing these measures.
It emphasized that such escalatory practices would only fuel tensions and undermine the prospects
for achieving security and stability in the occupied Palestinian territories and the entire region.
Egypt reiterated its call upon the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to halt Israel’s ongoing violations
against the Palestinian people and to ensure respect for the historical and legal status of the holy sites in Jerusalem.
This would contribute to fulfilling the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people
and support efforts to restore security and stability in the region.
