Amman, Jordan – The General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army announced today, Sunday, May 17, 2026, that the Eastern Military Region successfully thwarted two attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotics across its border and within its area of responsibility. This operation counters the latest innovative tactic employed by smuggling gangs to threaten the Kingdom’s national security.
Security coordination and interception of electronically directed parcels
A responsible military source at the General Command stated that the valiant border guard units, in close coordination with security agencies and the anti-narcotics department, detected two attempts to cross the border illegally using advanced surveillance systems. It was also discovered that the narcotics were being transported via sophisticated balloons, which were remotely controlled electronically.
The source added that the armed forces dealt with these remotely piloted balloons decisively and swiftly, in accordance with the established rules of engagement. This resulted in their successful interception and complete downing, along with their cargo of narcotics, within Jordanian territory. They were prevented from reaching their targets or penetrating Jordanian security.
Continuous vigilance and transfer of seized items to the competent authorities
Following extensive search and sweep operations in the area where the shipments were dropped, field teams were able to secure all the seized narcotics. They were then immediately transferred to the relevant judicial and security authorities for the necessary legal action.
In its concluding statement, the Jordanian Armed Forces affirmed their unwavering commitment to utilizing all available technological and military capabilities to protect the Kingdom’s borders. They also emphasized their readiness to thwart any infiltration or smuggling attempts aimed at undermining the nation’s security and stability. Furthermore, they stressed the complete vigilance of their personnel in countering the various innovative methods employed by organized international smuggling networks along the eastern border.
