Tehran, Iran – The Iranian Foreign Minister discussed the latest regional and international developments and bilateral relations with his British counterpart, Ed Miliband, in a telephone call. The Iranian minister accused Britain of complicity in the ongoing US and Israeli aggression against Tehran, demanding an urgent review of this approach.

Condemnation of the designation of Iranian forces and demands for reconsideration

During the call, the Iranian minister deemed Britain’s “inappropriate” approach toward Iran—manifested in London’s recent decision to classify the Iranian armed forces as a threat to British national security, as well as its complicity in the two wars waged by the US and Israel—completely unjustified and reprehensible, stressing the need for the British government to reconsider this course. Araghchi pointed out that the US-Israeli military aggression is the primary factor in the current escalation of the situation in the region. He explained that his country entered the diplomatic process in good faith and reached an agreement to end the war on June 18, but the US side once again violated its promise and obstructed its implementation.

A warning against cooperating with aggressors and an affirmation of the right to legitimate self-defense.

Araghchi asserted that any cooperation with aggressors, including under the pretext of previous defense contracts, is unacceptable.

He explained that, according to international law and the UN Convention on the Definition of Aggression, allowing aggressors to use the territory and facilities of one state to unlawfully attack another constitutes an act of aggression, thus entitling the attacked state to exercise its right to self-defense.

The British position: London is not a party to the war and believes in diplomacy.

For his part, the British Foreign Secretary outlined the new government’s approach, emphasizing that London is not seeking war with Iran and believes in diplomatic solutions to various issues. Miliband stressed the need to continue joint diplomatic efforts with Iran to improve bilateral relations and reduce existing tensions in the region.
