Amman, Jordan – His Majesty King Abdullah II, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, received Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis upon their arrival at Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
These official receptions mark the commencement of the fifth trilateral summit between Jordan, Cyprus, and Greece. The summit is being held amidst highly significant regional and international circumstances.
Summit agenda and expanding cooperation prospects
The summit, bringing together the three leaders at Al-Husseiniya Palace, aims to review the achievements of previous sessions and explore ways to expand strategic cooperation among the three countries in vital sectors including energy, food security, tourism, and maritime transport. The rapidly evolving situation in the region is also a key topic of discussion. The leaders seek to coordinate their positions on current crises and enhance stability in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, serving the interests of their people and ensuring the security of global navigation and trade.
Accumulation of achievements: From Nicosia to Amman
This summit reflects the deep-rooted partnership between Amman, Nicosia, and Athens, an institutional partnership that began with the first trilateral summit hosted by Cyprus in 2018.
Since then, the three countries have maintained a regular convening schedule. Jordan hosted the second summit in 2019, followed by the third in Greece in 2021. Finally, the fourth summit was held in Cyprus in 2024.
A shared vision to address the challenges
The convening of the fifth summit in Jordan underscores the Kingdom’s pivotal role as a pillar of stability and a bridge connecting Europe and the Middle East.
The summit is expected to issue a joint statement emphasizing the necessity of political solutions to regional crises. The statement will also highlight the strengthening of the economic partnership between Jordan and the European Union through the Cypriot and Greek gateways. This is particularly important given the challenges posed by nearby armed conflicts and their impact on global energy security.
This summit exemplifies a successful model of regional cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests in the face of current geopolitical challenges.
