  • NATO is working to enhance its military readiness
  • Continued tension between Moscow and the alliance

Brussels, Belgium – NATO has affirmed its readiness to deter any Russian action that could threaten the security of its member states.

It also emphasized that its defense capabilities and military plans enable it to respond to any potential threat.

A NATO official told Sky News Arabia that the alliance continues to closely monitor Russian movements.

He confirmed that member states possess the necessary capabilities to defend

their territories and maintain their collective security.

NATO is working to enhance its military readiness

He added that the principle of collective defense is the cornerstone of the Alliance’s strategy.

He stated that any direct threat to one of its member states would be met

with coordinated action among the members,

and appropriate measures would be taken to protect the region’s security.

The official noted that NATO is working to enhance its military readiness, particularly on its eastern flank.

This is being achieved through increased training, improved coordination,

and the development of surveillance, reconnaissance, and air defense capabilities.

Continued tension between Moscow and the alliance

The statements come amid ongoing tensions between Moscow and the alliance.

European concerns are also growing regarding the potential for a wider

escalation of security and military tensions on the continent.

The official emphasized that strengthening NATO defense capabilities is primarily

aimed at deterrence and preventing any escalation, not at provoking a direct confrontation with Russia.

These positions reflect the alliance’s continued policy of enhancing military

readiness and expanding deterrence capabilities.

This comes as it closely monitors Russian movements and security developments on Europe’s eastern borders.
